Fair Elementary Teacher of the Year

Jan Collier

Jan Collier was chosen Fair Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year.  She is an outstanding teacher who is in her 16th year of teaching.  She began her educational career at in the Oktibbeha County School District as an assistant teacher.  While employed with the Oktibbeha County School District she was an assistant teacher for 1 year, a first grade teacher for 8 years, and a Literacy Coach for 2 years.  In 2007, Mrs. Collier was hired at Fair Elementary.  Since her employment at Fair, Mrs. Collier has taught 1st Grade and 2nd Grade.  She worked in the Extended Year program and is currently serving as Lead Teacher for Dillard’s Reading, Enrichment, Arts, Mathematics, and Science (DREAMS) After-school and Summer Tutorial/Enrichment Program.  She is an asset to Fair Elementary School and to the district. 

Mrs. Collier is always well prepared and dedicated to teaching.  Her positive attitude and compassion for her students is recognized by administrators, teachers, and especially parents.  Her classroom is a very positive learning environment for students.  She pours her heart into her students.  She arrives early and stays late each day.  She plans centers and learning activities that engage her students.  She uses data to provide differentiated instruction for her students, always maintaining high expectations. 

Mrs. Collier promotes parental involvement.  She communicates with parents on a daily basis. Mrs. Collier works cooperatively with other teachers and staff.  She serves as our Teacher Support Team (TST) Coordinator. She facilitates our monthly TST meetings and provides our staff with current information on the TST process. 

Mrs. Collier is always willing to serve on committees as well as take on leadership responsibilities.  Her leadership skills are shown in her classroom with her students.  She also serves as a mentor teacher to other teachers.  Teachers observe in Mrs. Collier’s classroom on a regular basis as she models best practices in her classroom.

Mrs. Collier is married to Chris Collier and they have two children Carson Collier and Morgan Collier Reed.

Mrs. Colliers’s excellence in teaching, her leadership ability, and her love of children make her an outstanding teacher.   We are very proud to have Mrs. Collier on our team at Fair Elementary School.
